Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy, also known as minimally invasive surgery or keyhole surgery, is a surgical technique commonly used for diagnosing and treating various abdominal and pelvic conditions. During laparoscopy, small incisions are made in the abdomen, through which a thin, flexible tube equipped with a camera and surgical instruments is inserted. The camera allows the surgeon to view the internal organs in real-time on a monitor, providing a clear and magnified image of the surgical area. This approach offers several advantages over traditional open surgery, including smaller incisions, reduced risk of complications, less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery times.

Laparoscopy is used for a wide range of procedures, including but not limited to, gynecological surgeries such as ovarian cyst removal, hysterectomy, and treatment of endometriosis; gastrointestinal surgeries such as gallbladder removal, appendectomy, and hernia repair; and urological surgeries such as kidney procedures and treatment of urinary tract conditions. The minimally invasive nature of laparoscopy makes it particularly appealing to patients seeking less invasive treatment options and faster recovery times. However, not all surgeries can be performed laparoscopically, and the suitability of this approach depends on factors such as the patient's medical history, the complexity of the condition, and the surgeon's expertise.
